In the novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexander Dumas, the story revolves around Edmonde Dantes, who is a young, successful trading sailor. The story takes place mainly in the Mediterranean Sea, and revolves around the time period when Napoleon was exiled to Elba. The story is a terrific novel that shares a story of adventure, revenge, and even romance.
Taking his revenge felt good but Dantes knows that some off the things he does was wrong. He realizes that in order to move on, he needs to make himself feel as if it was necessary to do wrong in order to do right. He eventually does so by going back to his old cell. Along the way Dantes also helps people that he knows needed it. He gives lots of his fortune to old friends and people that need it along the way. Dantes finally moves on with his life, marries his truelove Hydee, and rides off into the sunset.
The story begins with Dantes, who recently was granted command of his ship by his dying captain, Leclere. Dantes returns to Marisville, where he lives, to marry his fiancé Mercedes. But because up jealousy, he is soon betrayed by Villefort, Danglars, and Fernand. He is sentenced to prison where he meets Abbe Faria. For fourteen years he teaches Dantes many languages, mathematics, science ect. Before Abbe Faria dies he tells Dantes where his fortune is. Abbe does eventually die, but Dantes uses his corpse as a way to escape prison.
Once escaped Dantes find out that his dad had died to poverty. He finally comes to the conclusion that everyone he had once known had betrayed him. He wants revenge, on everyone who had betrayed him, by doing so Dantes takes on threes identities. Using these identities Dantes instead of simply murdering the people that had once done him wrong, decide to make them suffer. He eventually drives Villefort crazy enough for him to commit suicide. He finds Fernando who has married his old fiancé Mercedes. Mercedes recognizes him and asks him to spare her and her son. Dantes does so and confronts Fernando which eventually brings him to his down fall in prison. Danglars, who is a major reason why Dantes was sent to prison, is eventually arrested when he admits to setting up Dantes. But Dantes instead forgives Dangles, feeling that he was truly sorry, and let him out of prison with the money he had left.
